About Sleep Diagnostics

Helping You Rest Easy

Testing at Our Sleep Labs

Sleep diagnostics, also known as sleep studies, take place during the day or night, depending on your sleep problems. Studies are painless and easy – during the tests, tiny monitors are placed on your scalp, face and legs with water-soluble paste and tape. You may also have some stretchy bands around your chest and stomach.

Our patient-friendly environment offers some of the latest in sleep technology under the supervision of highly trained sleep physicians, who are certified by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).

Sleep tests include:

  • Polysomnography: This is a comprehensive recording of physiological changes and activities that occur during sleep.
  • Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT): MSLTs are also called “nap studies,” and are used to see how quickly you fall asleep in quiet times during the day. Nap studies usually consist of four or five nap opportunities of 15-20 minutes with breaks lasting for two hours in between nap attempts.
  • Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT): MWTs are day studies used to measure your ability to stay awake after a good night’s sleep. The MWT consists of four sleep periods with breaks lasting for two hours in between them. For each period, you will sit quietly in bed and try to stay awake for 20-40 minutes.

Our sleep specialists will work closely with your referring physician to determine which tests you require.

The sleep diagnostic rooms at all three hospitals within Community Healthcare System have a full-sized bed, a flat-screen satellite television, and a private bathroom so that our patients are comfortable during their stay with us.

Scheduling a Sleep Evaluation

Your physician can set up an appointment for a sleep study (PSG) or you can call one of our sleep diagnostics centers for a referral. We’ll forward your sleep study findings to the referring physician upon interpretation.
