Lung Care

Helping patients breathe easier!

Experts at the hospitals of Community Healthcare System provide a wide range of services and advanced technologies for those in need of lung care. Our programs assist patients with managing pulmonary conditions including:

  • asthma
  • COPD
  • chronic and advanced lung disease
  • pneumonia
  • lung nodules
  • pulmonary hypertension
  • neonatal and pediatric respiratory conditions
  • respiratory failure
  • sleep disorders

We work with patients in determining the best course of treatment and follow-up care to achieve their best possible outcomes, including helping patients with COPD successfully manage their conditions to reduce hospitalizations. And our quality is documented at St. Mary Medical Center as the only Northwest Indiana hospital recognized by Healthgrades® as among the top 10% in the nation for pulmonary excellence.

Our hospitals also offer advanced diagnostics for lung cancer, including screenings and evaluations as part of our overall approach in multi-disciplinary lung cancer care. We are among the first in Northwest Indiana to utilize innovative technologies such as the SpiN® Thoracic Navigation System (SPIN Drive) and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) to help diagnose lung cancer and other diseases within the lungs.

Our specially-trained, licensed respiratory therapists and physicians can provide advanced pulmonary testing and counseling. Patients benefit from exercises to help improve lung function. Our pulmonary specialists also provide valuable ventilator maintenance service for patients requiring ventilator support.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Our hospitals also offer accredited pulmonary rehabilitation programs for those suffering from COPD and other chronic lung diseases. Our Outpatient Pulmonary and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Centers offer support and motivation for building healthier lives for patients with heart disease, pulmonary disorders, or those who are recovering from other cardiopulmonary conditions.

To enroll, ask your doctor. A physician referral is needed. You can call any one of our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centers for assistance, if needed.
